WEEK 52-The End-Oil on Linen 10"x10"

SOLD

This is "The End" of my Painting a Week. One year ago, 52 paintings later, it has been a fun project.
I want to thank all of those that have followed through out the year and to those that have purchased a painting.
One of the most common comments is that the paintings look better than they do in the blog. It's true.
This painting is me on the left and my good friend Ed on the right, riding off on a horse hunt. I painted it from a photo my daughter took of us.

As I look to 2009 I'm not sure what I'll be painting or how many I'll paint. If you have a scene you would like to commission me to paint, drop me an email. There are still 28 paintings unsold so have a browse.

WEEK 42 - Grizzly - Oil on Linen 10" x 10"

Sold

Had a interesting encounter with a grizzly two weeks ago. I was hunting with a friend of mine and he spotted a bear down a logging road. Thinking it was a black bear and we might get a good picture, I turned around and we headed down the road towards the bear. The bear which turned out to be a grizzly was not spooked and as we came to a stop, about 20 yards away, the bear turned and charged us.
This painting depicts his stance after the charge. I choose to put the bear in a more natural setting.

The journey of a "Painting a Week" has been kind of like a journal, painting from places I've been or painting as the spirit directs and reflecting on life's highs and lows. This painting "Rose" is dedicated to a man in our community who lost his wife two weeks ago. At the funeral, attendees were asked to bring a rose, I was unable to attend, but felt led to do this painting which will be given to her husband Alan.

WEEK 11-Rock Ballot-Oil on Canvas-10"x10"

Sold to a private Collection
Rocks have been a popular subject of mine now for about five years. Here's a couple of things to ponder.
Can you imagine a river without rocks? It would be a muddy trough. Can you imagine the sound of a stream or a river if there were no rocks in it? It would sound like a mud slide. For me the visual of rocks conjures up memories of walks along a mountain stream or the roar of a raging river. I'm glad God placed rocks here and there for our pleasure.

This is a creek by our cabin. I was out there this past week and had a very restful few days to just reflect and think.

Forests, lakes, and rivers, clouds and winds, stars and flowers, stupendous glaciers and crystal snowflakes - every form of animate or inanimate existence, leaves its impression upon the soul of man.

WEEK 3 – Lunch in Dubrovnik - Oil on linen 10" x 10"

SOLD

This was from the walled city of Dubrovnik. It was quite something to walk in the streets of this old city.

On October 1, 1991 Dubrovnik was attacked by the JNA with a siege of Dubrovnik that lasted for seven months. The heaviest artillery attack happened on December 6 with 19 people killed and 60 wounded. Total casualties in the conflict according to the Croatian Red Cross were 114 killed civilians, among them the celebrated poet Milan Milisić. In May 1992 the Croatian Army liberated Dubrovnik and its surroundings, but the danger of JNA sudden attacks lasted for another three years.
Following the end of the war, the damage caused by shelling of the Old Town was repaired.

There are still remnants of war marking the city walls and streets. This painting depicts two residents looking for lunch, I call it Lunch in Dubrovnik.
